SCION EYE CANDY AT SEMA 2009
SNEAK PEEK: 2009 SEMA SHOW SCIONS
Scion eye candy to watch for at the prestigious aftermarket expo
Scion is gearing up for its sixth consecutive Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in early November, preparing to command a sizable presence at the premier automotive aftermarket products trade event on the planet. The company is set to unveil several unique project vehicles in Las Vegas, including new joints from fan favorites Cartel Customs and Five Axis Design.
Legendary sport compact drag racer and vehicle builder Jeremy Lookofsky and his Cartel Customs outfit will have a new creation among the Scions dotting the auto maker's booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center at SEMA 2009, a tC sports coupe. Established in 2008, Cartel Customs, also known as Drag Cartel, has delivered nothing but magic at previous events, and Lookofsky promises he will be laying it down big again for 2009.
With the SEMA Show on everyone's mind, the Cartel went for broke on its newest breed and final model of what it likes to call the Cartel Open Air Collection. Cartel's tC will likely carry on in the chop-top tradition of 2007's Ruthless Cartel xD and 2008's Drag Cartel Rockstar xB.
After wowing the SEMA Show crowd year in and out with amazing projects ranging from 2005's xA Speedster all the way up to '07's Swag xD, Troy Sumitomo and Five Axis make a return engagement with a fresh take on the xB. The last time he tackled the platform he came up with the groundbreaking xB DJ, a first-generation urban utility vehicle that came complete with an arsenal of speakers and an elevated DJ booth that motorized out of the back of the vehicle.
Five Axis taps the xB well again in 2009, bringing its considerable expertise to bear on a version of the DJ for the second-gen. box. Currently the project is being structurally reinforced before it gets cut apart, and if we know Five Axis the end result should be insane.
Finally, automotive enthusiast website 0-60 Magazine has received an xD urban subcompact that it plans to convert into a rally-inspired fun box. The publication, which constructed a Lexus IS F for last year's SEMA and is teaming up this year with Sparco, ostensibly will go all out to establish a believable rally rocket. Suggested modifications include a roof scoop, rally light pod, and distinctive graphics.
More than 2,000 exhibitors set up displays in over one million square feet of space at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the industry-only SEMA Show, which runs from Tuesday, November 3 to Friday, November 6. Since customization and personalization are Scion cornerstones, SEMA is a natural fit for the automaker. For more, visit www.scion.com and www.semashow.com.
